Signal Hill, CA -- On 5.21.11, alumni, staff, faculty, and friends of the Southern California Military Academy attended a memorial plaque dedication ceremony on its former grounds, now the location of Alvarado Elementary School.

This part of the ceremony focused on Command Sergeant Major William M. Presley, who unbeknown to the former cadets, was a decorated hero and veteran of D-Day on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France. CSM Presley received the Distinguished Service Cross for his actions and was mentioned in Stephen Ambrose's book "D-Day". CSM Presley went on to become a cadre member and assistant Commandant at SCMA.

  • COMMAND SGT MAJOR PRESLEY... The Big Man... He had a voice that could silence the loudest crowd... An Awesome man that always had an encouraging word for a young kid... A man that to this day is always in my thoughts... You are missed sir... Thank you.

  • I remember sgt maj presley, i was at scma until it closed, if i remember correctly in 1986. I loved that school. He was an honorable giant, he stood like a tower, but was always kind but firm to us cadets, great memories...
