My favorite of the highwayman good-night ballads, about John (William) Nevison, who was hanged in 1684 or 1685. Percy Grainger recorded Joseph Taylor singing this to a rather dismal tune in 1908; I've nicked The Halliard's melody, who recorded it a few years ago on "Broadside Songs."

Thirteen verses are given in "Curiosities of street literature, comprising 'cocks,' or 'catch pennies,'" and the song benefits phenomenally from losing most of them.
