Valse. À Betsy Lerche for Piano in A flat major, JS 1
Composer: Jean Sibelius (1865-1957)
Valse à Betsy Lerche (1889) is an exciting work containing several episodes, dedicated to the girl the composer was smitten with at the time. The work describes the stages of a love affair: the name of the episodes after the "Introduction" are "douce", "avec force", "à la Betsy", "avec passion" - and "adieu!".

There is more happening here than the title suggests. Total melodrama and sensationalized with an alluring incandescent hyperbole. Silbelius is bigger than life, but, contained within a parameter of happenings. Each passage links to the following with an element of surprise. TY.
