Public Meeting in Sydney, Australia on 19th May 2007: David Hicks is back but will serve another seven months at a maximum security prison in South Australia, the result of a deal between the US and Australian governments that demanded a guilty plea from David as a way out of the black hole of Guantanamo Bay. This public meeting discussed the way that the so called 'war on terror' changed the Australian political and social life affecting the rights to free speech, dissent, protests and freedom of the press. Other speakers included Omar Merhi, brother of one of the Barwon 11 men arrested in Melbourne last year and accused of terrorist activities; and Tim Anderson, Sydney University lecturer, human rights campaigner, and a victim himself of unfounded allegations of terrorist activities.
