I was once on a festival where Gojira and Mastodon played. It was amusingly ironic, that one one band was singing about whales with admiration and was about to release an EP to finance help for white whales, while the next one sang about killing the damn Ahab. lol

I'd say it's progressive death metal, but it doesn't really matter what you call them because as far as I know there are no other bands to compare them with. When you listen to the vocals & the riffs you clearly hear the death metal roots, but there are a lot of other influences which make them progressive. I see TMYRec also mentioned "melodic" and that can also be true, comparing them to the "Gothenburg" bands or Carcass etc.
