Vedran Ćorluka is keen to help improve City's away form as he looks ahead to his first trip to the JJB Stadium on Saturday.
The Croatian, named as the Thomas Cook Player of the Month for November, is set to play at right back when City make the short trip into Lancashire and although it's new territory for him, he knows that the 5,000 City fans will play a big part.
Vedran says, "It's exciting, I love to go to new places and find out about grounds I've never been to before. I know that Wigan are not a bad side, but there will be a lot of our fans there. I do know that it's near Manchester so the ground should be full and it will be like a home game for us.
"We have to go there to win, I know we have only had one win away so far this season but we have got to play more like we do at home if we want to win at Wigan. It would be nice to win there and be looking behind at Manchester United as well!"
Despite the top of the Premier League tightening up and the expected clubs featuring prominently, the 21-year-old thinks that the Blues can still hold their own as the season progresses.
"We must be realistic and not expect to be in the top four, but we are a good team and should not be ashamed of that. The 'top four' teams are better than us, but they must prove that out on the field.
"We can aim for the top six or seven, but Portsmouth are a good side as well so a couple of teams could break through and I hope that City are one of them."
Corluka will face a side managed by Steve Bruce for the second time within a few weeks, and he anticipates that Wigan's players will raise themselves to impress their new boss.
"Players will want to prove to a new manager that they are good enough to play for him, and they played well against Arsenal, they only lost in the last few minutes. It will be hard, every game in England is hard as I'm learning, but it's the players that play and not the manager," Vedran concludes.
