Truck Simulator

Trucksim is the official project website dedicated to the development of the first full mission Truck Driver Training Simulator (TDTS) in the UK .This project has been made possible via the UK 's Road Haulage Modernisation Fund (RHMF), a Department for Transport initiative.

TRL Limited was appointed to manage, build, host and evaluate the effectiveness of training provided by the TDTS. Trucksim is located at TRL's Simulation Centre in Wokingam, Berkshire.The TDTS started operations in November 2003.

The first phase of the evaluation programme was completed in March 2004. Over 600 commercial vehicle drivers from over 120 companies assisted in validating the TDTS. Due to Trucksim's popularity, demand to participate in the research programme exceeded the number of available free spaces during the first phase period. Therefore, in response to the industry's desire to participate the Department for Transport has extended the research programme to accommodate a further 400 drivers (starting in May 2004). A Key development will be to greatly enhance the training component of the study and to ensure greater insight can be gained into the pragmatic opportunity of improving fuel economy performance.

Everything associated with risk it's intensive and hard SIMULATED these days.

Just an example, do you imagine a pilot taking off a plane without hundreds of hours inside a simulator?

When I was a driver for Werner Enterprises, they had a similar driving simulator, designed and built by Lockheed Martin. It was very realistic, and very educational. I had to drive the simulator as part of my train the trainer course. I most definately agree that it is a very god way to let someone drive the truck without actually putting them in real danger, yet still giving them a very good taste of what it's like to drive an actual truck.

Umm.. have you everconsidered the dangers and risks that are involved in real traffic? This kind of simulators are meant for learning to drive under different situations safely, not endangering other people in live traffic...

I think it is a great idea.. I have driven trucks for many years. This is the safest way to put drivers into dangerous situation with out risk. When you are sliding on ice,, there is a pucker factor,, you would understand if you were there. The the road today demand a highly trained driver. The same goes for airplanes you won't want a shake and bake flying the plane you're on.
