This is part 3 of 3 of a 23 min short documentary on the last rural village, or 'kampong', in Singapore - Kampong Lorong Buangkok.

This documentary is a product of love, sweat, and mosquito bites, created by a group of final-year students from NTU's School of Communication & Information. All rights reserved by Retrospect Pictures. Feel free to drop us a message for inquiries of usage!

Synopsis:
Despite being surrounded by concrete housing all around in modern-day Singapore, Kampong Lorong Buangkok fiercely retains its traditional roots, evident in the rustic wooden huts and strong 'kampong spirit' reflected by the older residents.

Three generations of a typical kampong family which has been intimately affected by modernization voice their thoughts on what has been and will be, giving a rare glimpse into kampong life in 21st century Singapore.

  • I hope Singapore Government will preserve this place as National Monument/Place or National Living Museum for all Singaporeans to witness in the Future

  • keeping kampong in singapore is a good idea. what i meant was instead of palau ubin which is part of singapore but not in singapore. isn't good enough. the only surviving kampong in singapore is buangkok. its good that they survive so they will let us remember the past life of our parent and grandparent living. now singapore only care about going into the future and following other country movement. this is real bored.

  • We must save the Kampong.

  • Lee Kwan yew dream is to get rid of kampong.

  • Excellent work but unbelievably sad. All our culture and history will soon be relegated to museum display cabinets.

  • The stupid MP only talk about compensation & alternative housings, but nothing about preserving this rare, precious unique facade of Singapore.

Its gonna developed into another yet lifeless shopping mall.

  • hes a good grandson.

  • I juz saw my BMT khaki Hakim! Its a small world!

  • Haha! I juz saw my BMT khaki Hakim!
