This was created just to point out that Obama's original ad is a decpetion. It was cut entirely from the original video. Nothing from the outside was added.

It does not belong to the Obama campaign.

The original video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-z-U5...

No, Barack is correct...Mitt didn't say what Barack said:

Mitt= "If you've got a business...you didn't build that; somebody else made that happen."

Barack= "If you've got a business...that...you didn't build that; somebody else made that happen."

See the extra "that"? Barack's ad is accurate.

Yes, he does mention roads and bridges right before he mentions the business. What is perplexing is why he mentions business in the first place. "Roads and bridges, blah blah blah, roads, blah blah. If you've got a business, you didn't build that, somebody else made that happen." Okay, fine, the business didn't build the road or frigging bridge - but why not direct your comment to Martians for that matter. It's not like all business owners go around claiming they built every bridge out there.

Perhaps you didn't read my previous post to the person I had responded to... in that post I made the exact 'this vs those' argument you just made to me. Perhaps you also didn't notice in my last comment where I said, "For the sake of argument I'll concede to you he may have intended to reference..." Notice I said "may have intended", so do not challenge me over what President Obama said. Go away now because it's clear you're challenging me for absolutely no good reason at all. Later

If he had meant "bridges and roads," he would have said "those," rather than "that." If he actually meant "bridges and roads," then blame his pathetic handling of the English language.

In what way was Obama's words taken "out of context?" Obama said that he was talking about bridges and roads, but if he had, he would have said "you didn't build those," rather than "you didn't build THAT." He was talking about businesses. If he was "taken out of context," then it's not Romney's fault (or anyone else's who listened to WHAT HE SAID). His grammatical inability to say what he wanted to say is at fault.

It's rather amazing that B.O.'s "say anything" ad actually included Obama actually saying what Romney quoted Obama. You have to be pretty stupid not to catch it. I wonder how many voters Obama's ads will cost him, just because they're bald-faced lies, and because some are just stupid, like this one (the "long version," that is).

Do government build roads/bridges or private contractors? Just curious

Businesses and the 'rich' pay most of the taxes that built the roads and bridges, though. So Obama STILL has it screwed up.

Besides, if it's government's job to be helping business, then Obama's bloody incompetent at it. Either way, he needs to join the unemployment line next January.

The meaning of language doesn't vary from speech to writing as you suggest. But the controversy is over what he said, not what he meant to say. For the sake of argument I'll concede to you he may have intended to reference "roads and bridges" using the pronoun 'that'. It's important to recognize the ambiguity is entirely due to the pronoun "that" refers to something... but what? Is it "roads and bridges" or is it "businesses"? Grammar (and logic) dictates there isn't a definitive meaning...
