Understanding Cocaine Addiction

WONG:
An interesting study to tell you about. An Australian scientist is doping up honeybees with cocaine to study how their brain reacts to the drug, and possibly find a way to stop addiction in humans.

STORY:
The research found similarities between honeybees and humans both are driven by rewards and both have their judgment altered by cocaine.

Report co-author Andrew Barron says its the first time it's been shown that cocaine has been rewarding to an insect.

Barren applied tiny doses of cocaine to the backs of bees before sending them out to hunt for food.

Normally when bees return from collecting pollen they perform a dance to communicate where the food was found and how good it tasted. The cocaine-induced honeybees "waggle danced" much more enthusiastically than other bees. They also seemed to experience the same addictive pleasures as humans.

[Andrew Barron, Report Co-author]:
"What we saw as I was video recording the dances was that when bees were treated with cocaine, when they came back from their foraging trip they were far more likely to dance, and they danced far more vigorously so it was really as if cocaine changed their estimation of how successful they had been in their foraging trip."

Barron hopes to identify the neural pathways that cocaine targets in bees to find out more about the mechanisms involved in human addiction. He also wants to find out whether the drug has as devastating an effect on bee society as it does on humans.

"If we could do that, we could possibly develop new treatments to prevent or treat addiction."

Barron also stresses that he does not endorse the use of cocaine in humans.

If you are thinking about doing cocaine, please don't. It has destroyed my family.. never ever EVER freebase. It may not seem like a big deal to do cocaine, but trust me, it is. Its not worth the risk of ruining your life and everyone around you.

best peice advice I have to give though, is quite obviously to never do it

as no one really can understand the powerful addiction cocaine brings

I never even did it that much (experimental) one summer about every weekend or at least twice a week, and 4 years later when someone mentions it I can still feel the urge to do, and the worst is when you are doing and run out, you can become very violent very fast, as you 'fiend' for it, it absolutely clouds all other thoughts so best advice, SMOKE WEED

no matter what the dealer says, "its not cut blah blah" someone cut it along the line, the important thing to look for is what it is cut with...

good coke sparkles under light, clumpy not grainy, soft/relatively easy to compact, has a strong smell, should smell somewhat how it tastes, and it should dissolve instant on your tongue (numbing), anyone that wants to try it

this stuff is great ONLY IF you have the mindset and will power to not go overboard

cutting agents = too dangerous, especially if you get it from an amateur that may not know what they're doing

I've been down the dark road (not to the point of no return) but even every weekend is bad (will have you grumpy and unpredictable all week long after a few straight weekends) test it also, learn how to tell cutting agents from almost pure stuff (pure u'd have to go to source, everything on street is cut

@TheJellyfishlion Glad to see people caring like you, most people just say drugs are bad, and don't do them, then shun people addicted. Hence not many comment on posts like this.

Of course the drug addicts will very fervently defend their addiction, and try to push it on others, to try and justify it being OK.

@TheJellyfishlion The drug is indeed a very tricky drug.

At first it will seem quite innocent, particularly compared to other harder drugs.

But then they need more and more for the party or sex, then that leads to needing it during normal day activities, then more there.

Then it takes over parts of people's lives, making them long for more empty things around the coke scene, they lose their real identity, their real true purpose. They rarely will see this, as they are addicted at a false high.
