When you buy meat from a local farmer (like here in Missouri), you buy part share in a live animal and collect that meat once it's processed. Usually this is by the quarter. It's around 100 lbs. of meat, which won't fit in the regular refrigerator-freezer. But it's cheaper by more than half in buying the same cuts from the supermarket. Plus you what's in that hamburger and gives you food security.
