helicopters can't fly that close but then again this is a movie.

@joracanelli well, he certainly did a great job. It's all a single shot, and if you watch the background, it hardly moves. That means that the camera didn't follow the choppers, so the choppers needed to fly where the camera was pointing. The result is magnificent; the camera captures the choppers flying in, their little ballet, their flying over, and then the guys crawling out of sand ... ALL WITHOUT PANNING OR TILTING, JUST ZOOMING. No wonder it's a famous shot.

This is such an awesome movie! And the bi-plane & helicopter scenes rival that of the X-Wing & TIE Fighter scenes in Star Wars released the year before!
Peter Hyams always made such great movies, and this one is probably his best! The movie RULES!

I just saw this movie on cable last night, and when the part with the two helicopters came on, it was so surreal. It was almost like they were alive, and they were turning to each other to converse.
