my deceased grandfather (Robert Hartvigsen) was the man that bought "Brutus" from Dr. Porsche himself, he was in the army and when he was restationed to south carolina he brought brutus back with the family but because it sat in the saltly air in a miami port for too long, it was ruined and my mom and her sister and brother had to sell it to get some money because this was shortly after my grandfather had died, its disappointing to not have it in our family anymore, but makes a great story
The Porsche 916 is awesome. Porsche raced this car as a 914-6 GT and it swept the boards at Le Mans (1st overall in GT category in its maiden appearance at the Sarthe). The Porsche 914-6 GT dominated other major races. The 916 brought the development of the mid-engined Porsche to a halt, because it could exceed the performance of the 911. It took over two decades before another mid-engined chassis emerged as a production Porsche - the Boxster/Cayman. The 916 is a great Porsche.
Well for its day, the 2.7 powerplant was a 'huge' performance increase over the older 2.0 engine. Yes it was plush :-) ...... the interior was leather as oposed to vinyl on the production versions.
The 916 was a factory prototype. There were 11 examples made. It never made it to production. It had 2.7 911s motor, plush interior, GT flares and those modern factory one piece bumpers. The car in the video is worth multiple six figures.
