I couldn´t say it better. I bought the single in that time, great music! Incredible that we are talking about nearly 40 years after this. Good music is undestroyable.

Blimey, I wonder how long it took to scour Holland for all those whites they put in the opening scene.

Was there ever a recording made of this arrangment of Eye Level/Van der Valk?

@MrGoblin60 This was the late eighties/early 90s - the niggers had not moved in yet.

I just discovered Matt Monro did this song and it's on youtube if you do a search. It's called "And you smiled". Amazing tune! Amazing Matt Monro ! Heaven in three minutes.

@lerxt42 - yes, but it wasn't a minor hit. It was at number one for about three weeks in September/October 1973 at the height of Van der Valk's popularity on ITV. The theme's called "Eye Level" performed by the Simon Park Orchestra.

no clue, but I know that I only saw one episode of the series (it was taken off the program rather quickly, don`t know why) and yet the tune was never forgotten - now that is quite a feat!
1 inch tape? This is from 1992 not 1972. The original series was shot like this. I think this later series was shot entirely on location in Amsterdam, probably on 16mm like Inspector Morse.

This IS from 1992.
The first two seasons of "Van Der Valk" was shot in 16mm outside, and videotape inside.
The 3rd season of the show was all-film.
The final seasons was shot on 1-inch videotape and digital videotape and both seasons were shot on location in 35mm film.
