Also, as Antte94 said, Brute is now pretty good with potential energy and ultra capacitor/ survivalist (wich is amazing for any heavy, really) and the fully upgraded shield pack, you're an incredibly durable versatile assault class

I play the Brute in Team Deathmatch and Arena (recently added). I am considering getting the Nova Colt for my secondary weapon so I can shoot more precisely on targets that take advantage of my low speed to escape. I am also considering the Heavy Shield pack to keep me alive in close combat. To save energy I take Potential Energy to capitalize on the mass AOE in the game.
