A way of stepping your Hobie Wave (or any other mast system that uses the mast base and ball setup) from the front, without having to walk over your trampoline. You also get to keep both your side and front stays attached to your boat. Also some rigging tips for your jib, stays and blocks.

With this method you can step your mast in 30 seconds in any wind.

  • I have a Maricat and use the same method, except I have pop riveted a piece of 90degree aluminium angle onto the mast and bored a hold in it. Put a knot in a good piece of rope around 60cm long and put it through the hole. On the other end attach a hook. Just put the hook into the dolphin striker and lift the mast the same way. It will end up sitting on the trampoline. Just lift it off there and into the mast base. The Wave is easier because it has a ball and socket. Principal is the same

  • I think the jib should go to the middle of the boat for more sail

  • Great technique for stepping, I'll be giving this a try for sure

  • do you think you could use the same method on a maricat?
