Nobody can say for certain but there were signs of a fix. Several written sources speak of the betting odds swinging in the direction of Mcgovern the day of the fight to not only win buyt by knockout is a sign something may have been up. Also the greatest combination era of his era pawing at the Mcgovern seems odd. Gans looks nothing like any of the other films that exist of him. Plus he falls several times without even being hit. A great boxer but a terrible actor.

People claim this fight was fixed but how to they know ? It's just a load of people repeating a rumor. Then it goes down in history as "fact". Actually, we don't know. Maybe McGovern just caught Gans early before he'd warmed up. It happens.

I've seen dozens of quick upset KOs where the favourite gets caught cold. I doubt they are all fixed.

joe was far too good to be beaten in this way......he's not much of an actor either! a true legend, if you can, any Joe fan should read 'The Longest Fight', a brilliant book about his fights with Battling Nelson, and his tragic end....

Damn that crazy how they didn't give fighters a chance to recover back then, so if you got knocked down you were kinda fucked cuz the second you stand up you've got a flurry of punches comin at you. Boxing definitely changed. Loved the video though, good quality for a 112 year old fight.

They were well above that weight.

Wow they totally abused him in that fight... I feel so sorrow for him. So unfair
