how did you get the model in Max? I have Max 2010 but it won't import anything if I try to import the FBX or DAE file.
I have tried with Max 2011 and only the DAE file will import, with the Morpher, but the model isn't skinned.

That is in Max 2012 with the latest FBX exporter/importer. Try the latest fbx plugin (got released a couple of days ago) and see if you have any better luck, else it will need to be Max 2012 or email evolver maybe they can help.
