A node point is where the string doesn't vibrate in certain harmonics. When you pluck a string, it vibrates with all harmonics simultaneously, so the string vibrates everywhere (unless you constrain it at harmonic nodes, as demonstrated).

so with artificial harmonics are you "creating" your own node point, sorry to ask, but I'm a newby as far as all this is concerned

Yes. Lightly placing the finger on the string (at the right point) creates a node point and allows a single "harmonic" (vibration shape) to ring.
