She became one of the biggest stars of the silver screen during the 1940s and 1950s after being discovered by Howard Hughes, the eccentric billionaire.
She died at her home in Santa Maria in California yesterday following a respiratory-related illness, according to her daughter-in-law Etta Waterfield.
Hughes, who was a film producer and director as well as an aviator and businessman, cast Russell in the 1943 western The Outlaw which turned her into a star.
She went on to sign a seven year contract and appeared opposite leading men such as Frank Sinatra and Bob Hope.
She even claimed that Hughes had invented a bra for her after being inspired by her physique.
Bless her, she was great, a good person, a great actress. She made the laws of adopting abroad easier after founding World Adoption and adopted 3 children, one was from Ireland, good on you Jane. Rest in Peace you truly deserve it.
