  • This is the personification of ' Real Talent' !!! .,only Ella joins him in this exalted company !!. Torme in my opinion is one of the greatest musicion singers of all time and sadly his subtle interpretation is not appreciated by the young consumer of 'popular musical culture' who are saturated by the bombardment of clever marketing which is directed towards the young and impressionable . The ' modern Music Industry' rules the minds and tastes of the young generation !

  • Two of jazz imortals. Shearing and Torme . I was always amazed at Torme's mastery of pitch. I listened to a verbal biography by him and he talked about how he use to dream in five and six part harmony. No jive! Every time I listen to the man that dream statement comes alive. Thanks for posting this.

  • @tappytoto1 : he really liked Fagan/Becker..he was always growing..what a player....off at 2.9 years old !!!!!......

  • When I listen to Mel Thorme, I always end up laughing, can´t help it, this guy really delivers.

  • I've always loved Mel Torme and George Shearing. I will say that if you love scat like I do, you have got to look up Rene Marie's Bolero/Suzanne. She SCATS Bolero. A very worthy successor to Mel. Yes Mel and George are awesome musicians, and just happy to hear some new musicians stepping up to the plate.

  • Probably the finest combination of jazz piano and singer that ever was. Shearing, always quoting some little phrase from classical music, and Torme, who could scat sing the phone book and make it fun to hear. I miss them both. We'll never see their like again.

  • メル・トーメ と ジョージ・シアリング、PICK YOURSELF UP!唄も 情緒もテクニカル! #jazzm

  • I was in New Orleans back in the 80's....and George Sheaing...Mel Torme...and Ella Fritzgarald at the OH damn...what was the name of the of that Hotel......I think it was called the Mark. OH how we miss him....such a vocie. I also miss Robert Perston...the music man....and Victor Victory.......he is really missed.

  • @tappytoto1 I wholly agree with you, Torme is superbly gifted and similarly I feel shamefully underrated within the genre of the great American song book. The combination of both he and Shearing is akin to fine chamber music within the jazz idiom.

  • @pgrockas1 "Frog"?? surely you meant "Fog" -- but, if you wanna talk about animal singers, how about "Elephants" Gerald ?? :)
