@traced14 No, he didn't. Those blocks are called End Portal Blocks, they could be found in strongholds 1.9pre4 (first added in 1.9pre3), and in 1.9pre5, you can go to the End. A dimension where there is all Enderman, and a dragon, with a white-greenish stone called "End Stone" and towers of obsidian makes up that world. No stars, no weather, very little light, and no way to get out.
