I think it's a mistake to try denying what theyr'e saying, it's a trap in fact.

I believe this country was founded as a secular country. That belief does not depend in ANY WAY on whether the founders were themselves Christian, or whether they used Biblical language. I listen to what Washington said in that letter, and I say, "so what?"

They're trying to draw some false conclusion from the Biblical language, and in my opinion you help them by putting too much importance on it yourselves.

Eh, as a former catholic I was able to find all 7 bible references, doesn't mean what Barton thinks it does though.

    Not really.

The Treaty Of tripoli has been used by mdern Ardenr Secularists for years as proof that America was a "Secular" nation int he way they meant it, or at leats not a Christian one, but Historians dont se it that way, includign Atheist Historians.

The one line in the Treaty isnt ven in all copies, and the Treaty itself only means theres no Established Church, and the situation was to placate Piraes, and is part of Realpolitik, not somethign to be Trusted as a smokign gun.

Not quoet. Barton is what is known as a Polemisist, who writes to support an Agenda. That isnt delusion, its intentional. of course this also makes him a Liar.

but there have been other liars, and even Atheist liars who ascribe to America's Founders their own beleifs.

The fact is, most of Americas Founders were Christian but wanted a Neutral Sate, not an explicitly Chhristian one.

But, we do know that Washington was himself a Christian. Whether or not this means he intended this Christian beleif to be Law is more the question than if he beleived the Bible.

Barton is right in that Washington was a Christian, but wrong abiut the Lws of America or the intention.

As usual, Barton sees what he wants to see. The shameful part is that he is preaching this crap to the deluded believers of anything he says.

I can quote the story of Pandora opening the box back up one more time for Spes, hope, to be on her way, that doesn't mean I believe those myths are "true."

As an apostate-catholic I can quote/referrence the bible at length. As a voracious reader, I can also quote Shakespear, Twain, Poe, Frost, Bronte, Hunter S. Thompson, Tolkein, Whitman, Shelley, Paine, and a slew of other notable (and not so notable) authors.

Do I then suffer a unique type of multiple personality disorder? Or am I simply well read? Is David Barton, then, a delusional idiot?

I know that the soul is aided

    Sometimes by the heart's unrest,

And to grow means often to suffer --
