A absolutly brilliant day out at the Great Central Railways Steam Railway Gala weekend, the railway for the past few years has teamed up with Steam Railway Magaine to create some of the most spectacular locomotive line ups on Britains only double track hertiage railway! this years was no different, with guests in the form of BR Standard 7MT 'Oliver Cromwell' making its return to the railway for the winter, Fairburn 4MT Tank 42085 from the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, War Department Austerity 8F 2-8-0 90733 from the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and David Shepard's BR Standard 9f 92203 'Black Prince'
the visiting engines ran alongside the lines home fleet, the event was suposed to be themed on the end of British Railways steam in the North West of England, how ever due to BR Standard 2MT 78019s failiure, the theme was changed with the presence of SR N15 Class 30777 'Sir Lamiel' deputising for the forlorn Standard 2, which made a run in the evening just as myself and theonlyadsrulz decied to head for home
The video opens with 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' steaming out of Loughborough with the TPO set, the intention was to ride 92203 'Black Prince' to Leicester North but to our dismay, as soon as we reached the ticket desk, we heard its whistle as it steamed away with its service. we then move onto an onboard shot taken from Stanier 8f 43805s train heading for Leicester on the approach to Quorn and Woodhouse, we are passed by 70013 heading a train of 16t Mineral Wagons reffered to as the windcutters, a prime example of the type of freight found regular towards the end of steam!
we now move on to a breif and only shot from Leicester north, its of 43805 running around its train for the trip to Loughborough, then another onboard shot of 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' just as we pull into Quorn it departed! making an unusual shot., then we stay at Quorn for 3 shots taken of GCR 8K or LNER O4 Class 63601 passing with the Mixed goods train, then we see 92203 'Black Prince' pass non-stop with a Passenger train for Leicester, then Visiting Fairburn tak 42085 arriving with the 2 Coach Local Train heading for Rothley.
the rest of the film is filmed at Rothley, with various trains arriving and departing the station taken from an Enbankment looking over the stations northern approach, we first see 63601 departing Rothley with the 2 coach local set heading for Loughborugh, then we see 30777 'Sir Lamiel' restarting after signal check with the lines Blood and Custard Dining set, we then see 92203 leaving with another passenger service heading for Loughborough, we then see the mixed goods train arriving behind 43805, and then being taken back to Loughborough by 42085, the goods trains and locals terminated at Rothley and engines swaped over for the return to Loughborough. we then move onto 90733 restarting after a signal check just before arriving at Rothley, this is a new sight for me to see 90733 not only on another railway but to see it pulling somthing other than BR maroon coaches! the final shot is taken from the platform, of 63601 passing through with the windcutter wagons, please watch part 2
