Wikipedia is just about as reputable as an unnamed source: "Do not stand at my grave and weep is a poem, written by Mary Elizabeth Frye. Although of disputed origin until later in her life, Mary Frye's authorship was confirmed in 1998 after research by Abigail Van Buren, a newspaper columnist."

Surely the wind and unnamed American Indians have less claim to the poem. Books WERE written in Japan that didn't mention her name even as a possibility. Wonder why...

"While generally now attributed to Mary Frye, the hugely popular bereavement poem 'Do not Stand at My Grave and Weep' has uncertain history and origins. Debate surrounds the definitive and original wording of this remarkable verse, and for some people the authorship is unresolved too. The best evidence and research (summarised below) indicates that Mary Frye is the author of the earliest version, and that she wrote it in 1932."

Just to inform that Mary Frye of Baltimore, Maryland (d. 9/04) wrote the poem in 1932 to comfort a friend whose mother died in Germany. She was not interested in making money from it and so stayed well in the background. Through the years, the poem itself made its way all over the English speaking world and was eventually translated to other langugages. I hope the Japanese translation gives proper credit to her.
