They are a little on the chunky side now, which is very strange because they have been on a strict diet to make sure that wouldn't happen. It must be hereditary. They're all related except for the grey tabby.

I would consider switching the kitties to wet food if they are not already on it. I am assuming they eat dry food because of the weight. Cats don't need carbs and those grainy dry foods are full of them. Since cats are not naturally eater of dry foods they are also covered in oils to make them more palatable which ups the calories tremendously. Switch to wet to shed the pounds and also make the kidneys last longer.

That is very good advice, almost the same thing the vet said. The kitties eat a grain-free senior/weight control formula and it does absolutely nothing for them. For anybody out there reading this; dry "diet" foods (low cal, low fat, lite, light etc) DO NOT WORK! Raw food would be optimal yet is too costly/time consuming for most people.
