----"" Incorporated in 1920 and with just over 5,000 residents today, Riverdale Park is a small town in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Nestled between College Park, Hyattsville, and Edmonston, the town derived its name from the historic plantation owned by descendents of Maryland's first family.
Extensive restoration throughout the town has made a trip through Riverdale Park into a delightful journey through Maryland history. Town Center, our historic business district, has attractions including a replica of vintage B&O train station, the Taylor-Wells antique shop, and a bookshop with "Coffee Depot."
"In 1844, Samuel Morse, the inventor of the telegraph, transmitted the first successful message from the nation's capital to Riversdale Mansion in Riverdale Park:
In 1856, Charles Benedict Calvert, a descendant of the founding family of Maryland, donated the land that is now the University of Maryland. 1880's Washington politicos visited Riversdale Mansion to drink from the healing mineral spring -- the first "health spa" in Prince George's County.
Riverdale Park's Cherry Hill Cemetery, one of the few remnants of black slave life in the county, is believed to hold the graves of 12 slaves.
In the 1890's, the first residences built by the Riverdale Park Co. were in the area around the B&O train station. Some still exist. "

Nice video. Very similar to one I posted last week. Not sure where all the ballast is going but I know they are working somewhere around Benning Yard.
