FreeSchools (FSWL) world literacy is a registered Canadian charity that empowers women and children with a free primary education in impoverished areas of India and Thailand. Using a cost effective grassroots model, FSWL currently supports 79 free schools.

Basic literacy gives women and children a chance to escape the cycle of ignorance and poverty that has enslaved them for generations. It provides the hope of continuing education, and the voice to create change. Literacy stops exploitation and abuse, and releases untapped economic and civil potential that uplifts illiterate villages and families.

Formal education is still beyond the reach of millions. Of the worlds nearly 1 billion illiterate adults, two thirds are women. The worst illiteracy is in India, where two hundred million women cannot read or write. The barriers to girls education are deeply entrenched in cultural norms. FreeSchools gives girls priority (but not exclusivity).
