"Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?" Psalm 77:13

Words and music by Debra Dis

I first heard this song at a camp meeting in Washington State in 1987. It was the first song I had ever heard about the sanctuary that actually tried to explain the symbolism of the sanctuary service. It's still the best song I've ever heard on the subject.

From the alter, to the laver, to the very first veil,
Thou hast shown me that I must be cleansed.
At the table of shew bread Thou preparest a meal
And to us Your fellowship You'll extend.

Chorus:
Thy way, O God, is in the Sanctuary.
Thy plan, O Lord, has been revealed;
And Thou art my High Priest who lives for ever;
And with Thy law I am sealed.

Thou art the light of the world, O Lord.
It's through Your candlestick of gold I comprehend
That the oil of Your Spirit has flowed through our lives
To reveal Your kingdom to men.

(Chorus)

Let my prayers ascend before You at the alter of incense.
Mix my praise with Your own righteousness.
Blot the record of my sins from the horns of Your alter.
Take my stains and give me Your spotlessness.

(Chorus)

Yes, the ark contains the covenant that's to last throughout eternity.
You'll write Your law in my heart and my mind.
And may this poor wooden vessel be covered by Your divinity,
As Your mercies I continually find.

(Chorus)

  • I've loved this song for many years, as Sister Debra was my senior Bible teacher in academy. Someone sent her a link to your video of this song and she just posted it on her Facebook page. Do you by any chance have the tapes of her ex-husband's sermons from that camp meeting? I've always wanted to hear some of his camp meeting sermons from the 80s because I heard that they were really amazing. I have some of his old tapes from when he was with Amazing Facts.

  • Boy, I don't know... I used to have the tapes from that camp meeting. They might still be in a box somewhere in my attic. One of the highlights I remember was an "almost" debate that happened between Gerard and John Osborne who was speaking at the same camp meeting. Right in the middle of one of John's sermons he (Dis) stood up and challenged him to an open debate. It had to do with what constitutes the church which was a really hot topic at the time.

  • Wow, I'll bet that was something. Was this at a Hope International camp meeting? If so then they might still have the tapes. I used to have one tape that Gerard did at a Hartland camp meeting, but it was too similar in style to a crusade sermon. A good friend of mine was at a camp meeting in California where Gerard was the English speaker at a Spanish camp meeting. He said Gerard really cut loose and preached like he wanted to preach rather than toning down his delivery for Amazing Facts.

  • Yes, it was at the 1987 Hope International camp meeting. As I recall, his sermons were more extemporaneous than were John Osborne's which sounded more like memorized scripts to me. You may be disappointed though, because they did sound like crusade sermons. Clearly, he didn't agree with some of the things John was saying, but since they didn't allow the debate, things calmed down considerably after that.

Is Hope International still around? I haven't heard from them in the last ten years or so.

  • Jack, can you play the hymn "Lord Prepare Me"?

  • I'm not sure if I know that hymn. Can you give me some more detail? Who's it by? What are some of the lyrics, etc.

  • I'd probably still enjoy them as I've enjoyed all of Gerard's preaching that I've ever heard. As for Hope, I know they've moved but I'm not sure where.

  • I think they mean the song Sanctuary written by Randy Scruggs & John Thompson.

    Lyrics:

Lord prepare me a sanctuary pure and holy tried and true with thanksgiving I'll be a living sanctuary for you

we sing this on Sunday at our church

    blessings

    Paul

  • Well, I give up. I sent email to your web site and it was returned and can't post URL's here.

You can do a Google search, LORD PREPARE ME, and get info/lyrics. I think you'd love the song. It fits right in with what you sing/play.

  • Can't get Youtube to accept my reply Jack. I'll keep trying.
