Over 100 activists from the community and Good Jobs Better Baltimore rallied in front of Constellation headquarters to deliver a giant pumpkin, filled with petitions, to CEO Mayo Shattuck. The event marks a turning point in the fight against the $7.9 billion proposed merger deal between BGE parent company, Constellation Energy, and Exelon Corporation. Customers and local residents are angry that more jobs could leave the city, that electric rates have gone up 104% over the last decade, and that CEO Mayo Shattuck could walk away from the merger with a $20.5 million payout. The activists are seeking job protections and guarantees for rate relief. While security would not allow the giant pumpkin to enter the building, the protesters sent a powerful message to energy executives inside -- we are not going away; we will fight for a better energy future for Baltimore.
