  • I heard this on the radio while visiting California in the 70's. When I got home, I called all the stations to request it. No one had heard of it. Not the dj's or my friends. They thought I meant The Lion Sleeps Tonight. Over the years, I would ask people if they had heard this song. Nope. All I remembered was the name and it came out about the same time as Gilbert O'Sullivans "Alone again, Naturally." Although I remember it being slower, THANK YOU for posting this to prove I'm not insane.

  • @RockabillyRevAndrew it's a great song, I just wish the lyrics weren't so specific to the Vietnam War so that it could be relevant to other later conflicts as well. If I were Rhodes I would have written the lyrics to be more general.

  • i've been looking for this for years!!!! thank you! thank you! thank you!!

  • Emitt is playing his Martin D-25 I believe.

  • @cedbenson That's unfair for Emitt Rhodes was a great, lost talent! Some critics even favorably compared him with Paul McCartney! He deserves to be known again!

  • Or am i confusing " Isn't It So?"

  • And by the way I spoke with Emitt about this album (he lives in Hawthorne) and he said this was released in 1983 ... a guy wanted to re-promote Emitt but he was fired the next morning for wanting to do so..

  • Emitt has a much slower release pf Tame the Lion, but it is much slower. I guess he wrote two songs with the same name. The slower version is on his "Farewell to Paradise" album.

  • @RockabillyRevAndrew This is my sons account. He's only 22 and of course would have never heard of this. lol I'm Diane.

  • This song didn't come out until 1971!

Emitt didn't record and release his first album until 1970

  • I heard this song once in the sixties driving home with my parents. I called every radio station in Chicago to try to find out what it was and who sang it. All I could remember was the lyrics "Tame the lion". Wow, it's like a flashback to the sixties. Thanks for posting it, it closed a chapter in my life. I've always wondered about this song for over 40 years!!!!
