those inscriptions are not really medieval. they are the gravestones of the ex Dutch officers who died in Melaka during the 17th-18th centuries. They are written in an old form of Dutch.

they're cookie/biscuit type things. i don't know what they're called in chink, but the english translation is "cow rope", which is a ridiculous name. no matter, they are still quite addicting :)
