  • Have any of you bought the Murnau, Borzage and Fox set that includes 'The River'? There are mixed reviews about the quality of the packing, many stating that the discs were scratched up do to them being put in direct contact with cardboard.

Does the book have much info in it?

  • I have the set and all my discs were fine and still in their places when I got it. They aren't in cases but are instead in cardboard like sleeves. Both the books are very good as well.

  • Thanks so much, coopsgirl. I'm really debating on buying the set. Its terribly spendy but I would love, love, love to have it. I'm in the midst of a horrible crush on Charles Farrell! LOL

  • If you can swing it, I would get it. It's a great set, especially for us Charles Farrell fans as he's in several of the movies :).

  • Well, I did it! LOL It is fantastic. I've now introduced my daughter to the joy of silent films. We watched 'Lucky Star' together last night and she adored it. Thanks for encouraging me to get it. I know it will be a real treasure. :o)

  • I'm glad you and your daughter are enjoying it. I hope more studios will take up Fox's lead and keep putting out these wonderful sets.

  • Thanks for posting these scenes from The River. Makes it so much easier to show people how rich early films were. If you take requests, please add the scene where she has him fill the fire wood box in her cabin.

  • YES. x3

  • And Mary Duncan lived to be 98!

Agreed this is an amazing (though sadly incomplete) film. I've seen it once on the big screen and today on the DVD. What a spell Borzage created here!

  • it looks so great, it's a shame to have lost the movie :'(
