That is what a reboot is. but i think they saved a series that was going done hill fast and the new spyro is closer alined to the spyro of old then you think. The more recent ones of the older spyro games spyro was changing for the worse in these newer ones he is more likely the one of old though in a diffrent way.

So that'd be like saying it'd be ok for me to take like, Dragonball Z, wipe all the characters personalities and past off the face of the earth, and redo it as a crappy film.
Or take the Tolkien universe, do the exact same thing, and rehash it horribly?
I'm not saying this Spyro game is bad perse. But this is NOT Spyro. This could have easily won me over if it was a DIFFERENT dragon but no they had to be LAZY and use an already made character :|

Technically it is sepreate from the rest of the Spyro series.
This series is a reboot, that means they take a few crucial characters, in this case Spro and Sparx, wipe the slate clean and start with a fresh story line.
I think it was a good idea since the other Spyro games had been going down hill, Spyro was also getting to be qutie annoying.
He is likeable again in these games.
