直方駅の100年

2010年に築100年を迎えたＪＲ直方駅舎です。
建築直後の古い写真から、現在の様子までをスライドショーで紹介します。
都市部の大きな駅舎で現存するものとしては九州最古、全体でも九州で５番目の古さです。

Nogata is a city of Kyushuu, Japan, famous for the center of coal mining, with which supplying iron blast furnace, the largest energy industry ever occurred in the history of Japan. 　
And the Nogata stationhouse, the first wooden station architecture in Kyushu, was constructed 101 years ago, older than Mojiko station, which is well known as 'Important Cultural Properties' determined by Japanese Government.
Nevertheless, the municipal assembly has decided to scrap Nogata stationhouse, as soon as new one is inaugurated this year.
Current Nogata stationhouse has been selected among "the 100 beautiful stations of Japan," and recently broadcast on NHK-TV new year program "Japanese wooden stationhouses."
Last November, Mr Norihiko Oobayashi, film director and screenwriter of Japan, afrer visiting Nogata station, said, "Now is the time for us to be the head of culture, preserving historical monuments, rather than pursuing after the tail end of civilization."
At present, Nogata City is promoting "Retro Town Project," looking back monuments of the past, in order to revitalize the city. If so, why are we going to destroy the oldest wooden stationhouse, instead of making cultural use of it?
Finally, citizens of Nogata joined together and started 'Signature Movement to preserve the stationhouse,' expecting 20,000 signatures out of 57,000 inhabitants.
Please take a look at Nogata station, since 1910, shortly after the iron and steel industry was born in Japan.
