The Amish continue the lifestyle of the 17th century, they have done so SINCE the 17th century.
The modern Amish were born to Amish parents who taught them to be Amish like they were.
What a stupid thing to say! Afraid of the past? They carry on the past and do so well.
There is nothing wrong with what they are doing, separating themselves from modern society to suspend their existences in a kind of purity they choose to preserve.
