Bob Barr voted for the USA PATRIOT ACT, yet has said that he regrets that vote more then anything else in his congressional career. He has fought against the Patriot Act even before he left congress, and he did have a reason for actually voting for it. If you want to know why, check out:

I am really tired of hearing people say they won't vote for Bob Barr because he voted for the Patriot Act when they really don't even research why that vote was cast. Ron Paul's aid said they wanted a man on the inside to include the sunset clauses that allowed congress to vote for it again in 2005 (which is the day that Barack Obama voted for the Patriot Act).

Find another reason to not support Bob Barr...the Patriot Act isn't one of them.

  • In 2005 Obama:

    - Cosponsored a bill, the Security and Freedom and Enhancement, which amended the Patriot Act to safeguard against privacy violations.

    - Joined a filibuster to block Bush's version of the Patriot Act.

    In 2006 Obama:

    - Voted for a Patriot Act reauthorization bill that included three key changes designed to prevent abuse of authority by law enforcement.

  • interesting. Thank you, but then it still seems to me that Bob Barr shouldn't be hated on for voting for it for including sunset provisions just like Obama is getting a pass for his own version. At least Barr said he wants to completly overturn the Patriot Act and the new FISA bill that Obama is supporting.

  • So... what you're saying is, next time tyranny is up for vote, we can rest assured he'll only vote if he "has to"?

    That's comforting...

I prefer someone who stands on principle no matter what the situation.

    Chuck Baldwin 2008!

  • tyranny shouldn't even be an option to "vote" for. The Bush administration is the one responsible for breaking the rule of law. Congress should be held responsible for following suit, but Barr did fight to give us a chance to debate the issue again because he knows, and Paul knows, that our government is corrupt, and will do anything to get more power and to keep it, and it is near impossible for single individuals to change that. Despite his vote, Paul didn't stop the Patriot Act

  • I actually voted for Bob Barr - may I have a cookie? The next presidential election will be the first one that I won't actually be voting for the official libertarian candidate. Ron Paul 2012 !!!!!!!

  • protector of our civil liberties my ass, he was pretty important in the war on drugs, then ron paul gets out there and barr suddenly changes his mind on that and defense of marriage act both, he's just another snake oil salesman, the only difference is he found a niche market in the libertarians, if it wasn't for them no one would know who he was and he wouldn't even be against anything he claims to be against

  • your a terriost im going to put cameras in your wife's shower for uhh security we will put tapes on the internet to show the world that you are terrorists, not lets she the booby's ohhhh, the tapes are going to be sold to uhh high personal thats it "high" personal lol

  • you want to talk about other reason to not vote for bar. ok, here's a few:

tax payers money going to the dept. of homeland security, authorizing the war in iraq, "no child left behind", years of working for CIA, PAC funding for the campaigns of numerous neocon republicans as recently as just last year, calling for continued direct federal taxation of US citizens (the so-called "fair tax"), IN HIS OWN WORDS: "line of credit" an "long-term congressional action" in the fannie and freddie bailout.

  • either he voted for the patriot act in order to be on the committee, OR he regrets voting for it. you can't have it both ways. why would he regret voting for it if he had a good reason for doing so?????

  • Lol, he looks like a teenage Hitler.
