@jmk0309 If its Surplus, they're loaded to 196 grains. New productions run about 170 grains, pussy rounds if you ask me :D

Try putting the can on a flat steel plate with a coin between the can and plate. When you shoot the can, the immense pressure indents the coins image onto the lid. It varies with the cans thickness and what coin you use.

I love shooting at pop cans and stuff with fluid in them. Pop! Nice camera too!

One of our favorites is going to the local dollar store and getting them to sell us their unlabeled canned goods for super cheap. A 5.56 or 5.45 makes them almost vaporize. We can usually find the bottom right where we set it but the shell of the can will be around 50 yards away! Tomato soup is one of the best ones to get, by the way. Or Chicken Noodle, heck I like em all really!

was that surplus or new production ammunition?

That was basic surplus ammo. Wish we could tell you what kind but it came with the rifle in unmarked containers and we are too lazy to look up the headstamps.
