Dan Lawson introduces the new Sonuus i2M musicport at Winter NAMM 2011.
The i2M musicport is an ultra-fast monophonic MIDI converter for guitar and other instruments. It also includes a Hi-Z USB audio interface to give you an easy way to connect your musical instruments to your computer.
The first part of the video demonstrates the MIDI tracking performance.
The second part of the video demonstrates the Hi-Z Audio input.
Apple's Garage Band was used for MIDI sounds and guitar amp simulators.

  • Any chance you could share with us the settings on the i2m software and the details of the computer you're running it on? I can't seem to get mine to track anywhere near as nice, and there's a considerable lag.

  • @franknewman21yahoo The settings were just the out-of-box settings. Audio was running through a standard Macbook. If you go to our support forum we can try to talk you through getting it working as it should be: sonuus . com and select the "forum" option at the top-right.

  • Can the i2m connect somehow to a guitar amplifier for live perposes like the G2m?

  • @gooeyjazzful You can use a "Y" cable to connect your guitar to both the i2M and an amplifier. The input to the i2M has very high-impedance so it won't affect the signal quality if you do this.

Doing this, you get a THRU connection just like the G2M has.

  • A few questions:

1.) Are the pitch bends on the real guitar converted over to MIDI pitch bends?

2.) Velocity-sensitive? If yes, can the velocity curves be adjusted?

I primarily work with the Vienna Symphonic Library samples as well as other VSTis. Thanks! It looks very impressive!

  • @MikeRoePhonicsMusic

    (1) Yes, pitch-bend is converted to MIDI pitch-bend. The conversion is both very fast, and very accurate (no other MIDI system is as fast or accurate for pitch bend).

    (2) Yes, it is velocity sensitive. Currently, the velocity curve can't be adjusted but it is something we may add in the future. Many sample players let you adjust the velocity response so it's not been a high priority for us. Does Vienna Symphonic Library let you do that?

  • @sonuusMusic Thanks for the feedback! I'll check it out soon :)

  • anyone else noticed he's changing pick-ups when his sound is converted to a MIDI patch anyway? lol

  • Please come out with the same thing, only in a poly version that works with any GK-3 compatible pickup! If you keep the price down....they will come to your door :)

  • Maybe I should cut off my pinky and then I could sound awesome too!
