I'm Pedro Leandro and I'm a 17 year-old aspiring countertenor. This video is a clip from a private charity concert that took place on the 25th of June. I am singing "When I Am Laid In Earth" by Henry Purcell, it's an extract from Dido and Aeneas. I am accompanied on the piano by my great friend Samuel Desguin who did an amazing job considering that I gave him the music a week before the concert!
I hope you enjoy it! Please comment and rate it, even if you hate it, it's always great to have constructive criticism!

  • I think you have a nice enough voice, but the performance is too rushed. I feel the meaning of the song can only come through, alongside the beauty of it, with a slower tempo. But the voice is good!

  • @samlane218 true, very true! I had planned to do it slower but with the excitement of the day, I guess the pianist (a friend of mine) and myself rushed through it a bit...

  • @samlane218 I'll be posting more soon, so please check those videos out too!

  • Hi Pedro, thanks for sharing. It's a beautiful aria. You still have to work hard to make your technique smoother and more effortless, but I think you have a good potential, and it's just a matter of time. I gave you a positive rating as I hope you are working in the right direction:-). But why such a sad piece at your age?:-) I think you can sing something about when you die much later:-). Also, if I'm not mistaken it's a woman's aria and only Scholl and you sing it.Why not something for men?:)

  • @serenaluce Thanks for watching and commenting! Of course, I still have a very long way to go technically, that's a given! When I Am Laid In Earth is a beautiful aria, and my favourite Purcell aria, it's breathtakingly beautiful and sad, and I love that in a piece! The rest of my repertoire is for men, but I heard this sung by Emma Kirkby and fell in love with it, so I decided to sing it! I have two more videos to post of that concert, hope you enjoy them!

  • cheeky bastard, the tags xD
