herran - hay treaty let you free pass (and without taxes) trough colombian territory in exchange of US protection in case of spanish attack. That was the way the us got inside the panama territory and bough the rights of the leeseps project.

nop..you are so wrong..panama was part of the gran colombia...a federation formed by the actual venezuela, colombia and ecuador. Colombia back then was named granada. Panama had no armed forces end though it was good to join to the gran granda trough colombia, we had a good comunication to both oceans. Colombia used us as a backyard as the US politics has used latin amercia as a backyard. when the gran colombia broke up, panama wantede to be independent again...colombia denied that righ.

It made me sad to go to the Miraflores Visitor's Center and see the film showing Jimmy Carter giving away the Canal. I know the Panamanians feel it is rightfully part of Panama, but what they forget is Panama is rightfully part of Colombia and only became a country due to the US not being able to get Colombian consent to build the canal.

A GREAT PLACE to grow up. I was at BHS for 3 yrs class of '74 then 2 yrs at CZC. Lived in Arijan, then Cocoli and later Howard AFB. My dad was in the Air Force and worked on Rodman with the sea rescue boats. Pizza at Napoli, fried rice at the YMCA and fun at the Ancon Inn. Good memories :)
