The deep red glow in this flask comes from freshly-made quantum dots. This is an inside the fume hood shot of how researchers make them at Johns Hopkins, with a selenium solution injected into a solution of cadmium oxide in hot stearic acid. Demonstrated at Johns Hopkins University by Charli Dvoracek, a PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering supported by the JHU Institute for NanoBioTechnology. Charli works for Peter Searson, director of the Institute.
