Peter Eugene Balls work is prolific, he has over fifty sculptures in churches and cathedral's throughout England and Wales. His secular work can be seen in many galleries and private collections.
In this film Peter explains his thought process and how he creates his work. He works with found objects, predominantly wood, often embellished with beaten metals such as copper, pewter or gold leaf, and his sculpture is mainly figurative. It has a crudity and simplicity which allow him to clearly express himself, with no self - conscious element and no concession to fashion or superficial values. The majority of his work is idiosyncratic and uncompromising.
Peter's work possesses a unique quality, defined in the expressive faces and slender, elongated figures which emerge from the found objects which are his inspiration. His sculpture echoes the consciousness of past ages set in the context of the present day. His works assume a timeless quality and the statements he makes often have an historical, mythological or literary origin and reflect his gentle wit and criticism of the human condition.
This short documentary reveals the man behind the work.
Very interesting. You really get to understand this artist. He is obviously very good at what he does and I am very interested in his work. I hope to see some around the UK. Please post more!
