CALIFORNIA OF THE PAST
Gary Kurutz, Curator of Special Collections for the California State Library explores the trinity of three pioneering men who founded the California State Library in 1849 and their generous donations to the state's history.
Recorded at the CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY's The Rare Book Room in 2010.
California of the Past is supported in whole or in part by a California State Library grant, by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian via Califa with services provided by Media Arts Center San Diego.
Through the digitized first person narratives of the California of the Past program, libraries are adding the living memories of community members to its archives. The libraries will encourage members of the community to visit the library to record, for example, stories of what main street used to be like, or memories of raising their children in the community, or childhood stories their parents told of life in the area.
