China is still a relatively poor country so the fact that democracy hasn't come yet does not mean that prosperity -> democracy is faulty. A lot of people still cling to traditional beliefs such as a family who thinks educating girls is useless that was covered in the program. China needs to be more prosperous and educated. Educated people are trained to think and this undoubtedly will lead to freedom to think whatever they want.
