  • pains me to think I might not ever see them live. They're all solo now right?

  • Sara's solo CD came out a few weeks ago, she is doing a little bit of touring, and also supporting Sean who is touring with Jon Foreman of Switchfoot in their duo/group: Fiction Family. As far as I know, Chris is still with his side project: the "how to grow a band" (I think that's the name?)

Sean and Sara are also playing with the WPA with Glen Phillips and a few other members from the Watkins Family Hour.

  • it angers me they didn't record the album version with the same long pause... it makes the song. i heard it live the first time and everyone in the club jumped when chris scream into the mic after such a long peaceful pause. genius technique.

  • I'm not angry, I like that they are still one of the few bands who will change up their songs when they perform them live. I love the pause, there's so much tension, and then so much emotion when they burst back in. They are such a brilliant band.

  • Chris is actually with the Punch Brothers now

  • agreed.

  • thanks for the indepth info.,,.it makes sense. i read in an article--in his own quotes--that he is now questioning his faith all-together...im not sure if he's a believer in God anymore...wow, that must have been some marriage/divorce!

  • Maybe not anger, as that can tend to come across as sloppy, and that's the very LAST word I would use to describe Nickel Creek. Their writing is incredible, and no matter what the 3 of them may have said in interviews, it would be hard to say that life events (especially one as big as a divorce) would have no effect on their writing and performances.

  • Sorry, that was phrased strangely. Edgar Meyer's bass and Eric Valentine's production and drumming*. =P

  • Absolutely. He has stated in interviews that while Helena is not about his ex, his divorce influenced the song's recording (his divorce preceedings were ongoing during the album's recording). While the subject matter of the song may not be terribly moody, the recording sure turned out that way. It is an amazingly powerful song, all things considered (I think in great part to Edgar Meyer's contributions on bass and the drums).

  • Helena? really? i didnt catch it to be so angry. maybe i'd got lost in the melody or something...so, do u think that song expressed his anger toward his ex?

  • His divorce was happening during the recording of the album, so it's pretty unlikely. The divorce did, however, effect how some of the songs came out (ie: Helena being possibly the angriest, most epic song in all of history).
