Warbirds Taxing at MCAS El Toro Airshow USMC

A group of warbirds taxing in at a Marine Corps Air Station El Toro airshow in the early 1990's. Aircraft included in order of appearance are F8F Bearcat owned by CAF, Hawker Seafury owned by B. Sanders. F7F, F4-U Corsair, AD Skyraider all three owned by Col. R. Bertea. F4F Wildcat owned by CAF. P-51D "Wee Willey" owned by Planes of Fame (POF). TF-51 "Lady Joe", a rare dual control version of the P-51D owned by D. Bond, C-121 Connie, B-17G Sentimental Journey owned by CAF, B-25J Mitchell owned by POF and finally the A-26 Invader owned by POF. The AD Skyraider piloted by Ret. Major General Ken Weir USMC ,

What an honor & fantastic way to spend time ! To bad they ripped El Toro out, them bastards ! I have to go to Chino now. It's all the same, just a deep love for old war birds & I have a dedicated enthusiasm for them that is undying... Do you still wrench on the birds ? I had a friend that worked a CAF for a while & then had a baby & he was done in, lol. Keep the love going, it's our history in the air & we invented that, & no other country can say that !

@TJDOZIER1- I also worked for quite some time as a director, & special FX, on music videos, Feature Movies, Commercials, giving me much expertise in cinematography. I have shot photo for over 30 years & love planes & could apply my efforts in that direction as well, if you are all in need of coverage @ ground level, or in the air as well. Nothing could be better than mixing my talents on the things I cherish the most. Sounds like I'll have to go out to Chino & meet you & the staff sometime soon?

I am there almost every Saturday.

This Saturday, the 8th, is our monthly event for Jan. 2011,

the Focke Wulf FW-190. We will be flying the FW-190 about noon.

We have an excellent staff of volunteers in our hangers daily,

anyone of them/us can give you a poke with a stick in the direction

of new volunteer sign-up!

I do have plans most of these weekends of January, but if I can cancel or reschedule them I would like to very much to make it out there & take in some of the activities. I have a friend that has family owned Ryan PT 22 & a Fairchild 23 Trainer in superb condition, & I've got to help them on occasions @ the hanger & strip to do routine duties & yet to get airborne with them, but will do that soon ! I will let you know how it goes & look toward a EXP.!

@TJDOZIER1 - I could see nothing better to spend off time on, than helping out on wonderful old war birds. I do have limitations do to a back injury that I received 5 yrs. ago, but I have terrific skills with all materials & working with people & have done top security clearance military training for our troops down @ Mirimar in San Diego for many yrs. I would love to be a part of keeping history in tact for future generations to see & witness fly, such a important part of our US development !

I get it now, my description was not in order of appearence. I will change that. Yes I still wrench on the old warbirds....at Chino, Planes of Fame. I am currently the team leader on the Bell X-2 Starbuster replica restoration. Next is an old reecee F7F we have. I do static display aircraft, other teams are dedicated to each warbird that flies at Planes of Fame. Stop on by and say hello. I am also still with the USMC museum which is now located at MCAS Miramar.

The first aircraft is an F8F Bearcat and belongs to the CAF. The AD Skyraider is from :53 to about 1:12. It folds its wings as it taxis and has 14 on the cowling. The tail code is HB. The aircraft was owned by Col. R. Bertea USMC Ret. and flown by MGen. K. Weir USMC Ret. . Its after the F4U Corsair and before the F4F Wildcat. Notice when it goes by you can see the crew window in the fuselage behind the wing. The F7F and the F4U were also owned by Col. Bertea. I worked at the USMC museum there.

Yes No. 14 in Blue W/ HB on tail fin is the early SkyRaider. I was speaking of the first plane in the line up... BearCat... The first plane looks like a Bear Cat to me, the Douglas Sky Raider had a thicker rear stabilizer tail which was more square ? I could be wrong, but that's what I believe that's what it is, a Bear Cat, following the F6F HellCat.... Perhaps the tails had gone through a generation of different shapes before ending up on a final ?
