Robert Louis Stevenson, one of my favorite writers, captured my heart in his written account of his cross country travels from the east coast to the west. His heart mission? To join, and hopefully wed, his love, Fanny. A much better account than any I could relate will be found online, should anyone want to follow up, or be inspired to dig a little, by my song. He passed thru this very town in which I live, and his telling of this hard overland journey was something which just touched me. The account can be read in
"Across the Plains," which can be found (and read) on this lovely website:
readprint dot com

The pics , I borrowed from the net, in order to tell the story, and used here to "illustrate" the song, not for profit, not for gain, no copyright infringement intended.
I actually wrote the line, "I will wait, by the door" before I found the painting seen, of a pacing Mr Stevenson, and his sweetheart, on a couch , where else? but by the door...:-)
Unknown to me where in San Francisco they wed, but a guess is City Hall. They honeymooned in the Napa Valley, Calistoga and St Helena. I am inspired myself to read "the Silverado Squatters" which is a sharing of their honeymoon, now on my todosomeday list, LOL.
here are lyrics to (a very simple song):
Enjoy:-) XOS, Laurie

Here Lies Love

sail the water
to the shore
ride the iron horse
o-ver the land
over the land

come to me
my oh my love
o-ver mountains
to the sea
to the sea

North wind blows
'crosst the deep
tries to steal
my flame from me

I will wait
by the door
here lies love
forever more, forever more

(break)

Come to me
Thee I'll wed
away from those
who say nay,
who say nay.

( as inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's travels)
