Gregory Markopoulos' lively portrait of the house King Ludwig II of Bavaria built for Richard Wagner. This film displays an incredible use of multiple exposures set to the overture of Beethoven's Fidelio. Static shots melt into each other, compressing a panorama of details - outside views of the house, views of Wagner's work space, sheet music, the sun, statues, paintings - into mere minutes of thrilling poetry on the square screen.
A magnificent film. It seems similar to how Eisenstein documented the Winter Palace and its items in October. I really need to see more things from Markopoulos.
