I stop it there because after that it only goes on to list the abuses put upon the people of the United States by the ruler of Great Britain, and that is not what this video is about.

What this video is about is us, We the People of the United States of America; that we are the sovereign of this country. We are the ones who thought of the idea of having a government, and we are the ones who gave that government the slightest amount of power. I believe that this is no longer taught in schools today, but I may be wrong.

It is very important for our children to know where the power came from, and why we have a government at all. Why do we have a government? We have a government only to do those things that the people cannot possibly do for themselves, and that is all! Let us talk about the federal government. Why did we the people create the federal government? We created it only to do those things that the State governments could not possibly do, or that they could not do very well, and that is it.

That is why we the people and the States created the Constitution. The Constitution is a blueprint for how the federal government is to operate. It is a limitation on the federal government, it restricts it. These are all simple facts that are lost on the average American today.

We must teach our fellow Americans about the founding of this country; teach them the truth about where the power comes from and how our federal government is supposed to be a limited one.

I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge in this country about our founding. How do I know so much? I read World Book Encyclopedia as a young boy when it was raining. I would read it for hours. Yes, it has the Constitution in there as well as the Declaration of Independence, plus a whole lot more. Just reading these two documents alone as a child told me what our country was all about, a country where the people are free, free of government control.

Even when I was that young I knew that the federal government was not allowed to legislate over the people! It is clear as can be in the Constitution. So when a few years ago I heard a "conservative" republican congressman say that he voted against legislation written to stop future attacks by monkeys on citizens of the United States because, in his words, it did not go far enough, I could hardly stop myself from puking.

The congressman, like most Americans, has no idea what he is talking about. The legislation as proposed was a limit on the interstate transportation of exotic animals (most likely constitutional). But he wanted to do more, like to put an outright ban on owning monkeys in the United States! He has no concept of our limited federal government. But he is not alone.

  • @B21983 Where in the constitution did it give the great Jefferson the authority to purchase over 530 million acres of land without congressional authority? Anyway, to answer your question, it is where it states that the federal government will provide for the common defense. To allow China to gain the advantage in space would be a dereliction of their duty. Obviously ignorant people are giving you thumbs up on your question.

  • @B21983 I don't say that's what he said or meant, but I'm inclined to think that he's thinking the same thing. Anyway, for a variety of reasons I don't support Gingrich for the republican nomination. But I am glad that he brings these topics up for discussion....talking never hurt anyone. What I like about Newt the most is that he brings up things that need to be debated, even if all his ideas are not the best.

  • @jbranstetter04 IF that is exactly what Newt said, I'd have no objections. His wordings and grandiose ideas are a problem -- they betray a personality and thought process that is not small government conservatism.

  • @B21983 I'm not advocating putting resorts on the moon, or even military bases etc. I'm basically just very much against us having a blank spot in space exploration while the Chinese and Russians continue without us. Also, I'm not happy at all depending on the Russians to give us rides into space. I'm telling you that this in not good for our security. This is not 1776; we have a lot more to fear when it come to military technology. We need to stay on top of it.

  • @jbranstetter04 Sure, a lot of things can be argued legitimately -- but don't say thats small-government conservatism. Space, of course, is important to our national security. Lunar colonies at a time of huge deficits and an entitlement crisis are not.

  • @B21983 We will not borrow money from China to do it. We will do it with the money taken in from income and capital gains tax. Social Security will be funded by SS tax, and Medicare by Med. tax. All other functions of the government will by funded by the first taxes I mentioned. Any money left over after military spending and the basic functions of the federal government will be spend as congress authorizes. First things come first.

  • @B21983 It's all a matter if interpretation. It can be legitimately argued that keeping Amtrak functioning is a matter of national security. The reason being that we need to keep all modes of transportation open to our military in the event that other modes are shutdown in unforeseen ways. Are you saying that us being in space is not important to national security? If so, then you don't know much.

  • @jbranstetter04 2) Calling moon colonization "common defense" and thus in line with the Constitution is like the liberals saying the interstate commerce and general welfare clauses give Congress the power to regulate basically anything in the economy b/c at some point it will impact or cross over state boundaries and impact our well being. In other words, your argument for Newt's lunar lunacy is more in line with liberal interpretation than with the conservative one.

  • @jbranstetter04 1) So we will borrow from China in order to compete with them? China does not yet even have a blue-water navy, let alone about to conquer space. The best way to beat China is to get America's fiscal house in order. To say that government sponsored colonization of space in 8yrs at a time of fiscal crisis in the US is a 'conservative' position, makes a mockery of the very term. Kinda like saying Newt is for family values.
